Tragedy Strikes Nashville High School: Three Students Shot in Cafeteria

     In a devastating incident that unfolded on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee, three students were shot in the school cafeteria, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

     At approximately 11:00 AM CT, gunfire erupted in the cafeteria of Antioch High School, located about 10 miles southeast of downtown Nashville. The Metro Nashville Police Department quickly responded to the scene, confirming that three individuals had been shot.

Tragically, the shooting resulted in:

• One student fatally wounded
• One student injured and in stable condition
• The teenage shooter, also a student, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound

     Following the shooting, Antioch High School was immediately placed on lockdown. Metro Nashville Public Schools issued a statement assuring that the person responsible for the shooting was "no longer a threat". Law enforcement agencies, including the Metro Nashville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, swiftly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and begin their investigation.

     The incident has deeply affected the Antioch High School community, which comprises approximately 2,000 students4. School officials have established a reunification process, gathering students in the auditorium and coordinating with parents for safe pickup.

     This tragic event occurs less than two years after another devastating shooting in Nashville, where in March 2023, a shooter killed three 9-year-olds and three adults at The Covenant School, a private Christian elementary school.
