Monroe GA- A tragic incident on Thursday night has left a four-year-old girl in critical condition, leading to the arrest of her mother on multiple felony charges, according to the Monroe Police Department.
City of Monroe police officers responded at approximately 9:44 p.m. on July 23, 2026, to the 700 block of Ridge Road after receiving a call regarding an unknown trouble. Upon arrival, officers located a four-year-old female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Responding officers immediately initiated lifesaving procedures, carried the child away from the scene, and transferred her to Walton County EMS. Monroe Police officers, with escort assistance from law enforcement agencies in DeKalb and Gwinnett counties, provided emergency transport to an Atlanta-area hospital. The child remains in serious condition in the intensive care unit.
Police took the child's mother, 31-year-old Ashley Brown of Monroe, into custody following the incident. Brown is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, two counts of first-degree cruelty to children, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm within 300 feet of a roadway.
The Monroe Police Department indicated that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
