A Roswell police officer was fatally shot Friday evening while responding to a report of a suspicious person at a busy shopping center off Holcomb Bridge Road. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. at the King Market shopping center on Market Boulevard, near Georgia 400, marking the third officer-involved shooting in Roswell this year. According to Roswell Police Chief James Conroy, the officer encountered a man behind the shopping center who immediately drew a firearm and opened fire. The officer sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to Wellstar North Fulton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Fellow officers pursued the suspect and took him into custody shortly after the shooting. The identities of both the officer and the shooter remain undisclosed pending family notifications and further investigation.

The Roswell Police Department released a statement expressing “profound sorrow” over the loss, emphasizing their focus on supporting the officer’s family and department during the grieving process. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp echoed the sentiment on social media, calling the incident a “sudden and heartbreaking loss” and urging Georgians to honor the sacrifices made by law enforcement. Tributes poured in from neighboring police departments, including the Dunwoody Police Department, which described the fallen officer as a hero and pledged solidarity with the Roswell community.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken charge of the case, marking its 12th officer-involved shooting investigation statewide in 2025.This tragedy follows two prior officer-involved shootings in Roswell earlier this year. On January 17, a SWAT officer survived a chest shot due to a bulletproof vest during a warrant operation, resulting in the suspect’s death. Another incident on January 8 involved an officer shooting a suspect during a struggle after a Taser failed to subdue him.

As the investigation unfolds, the Roswell community grapples with the loss of an officer dedicated to public safety. Authorities plan to release additional details in the coming days while urging residents to keep the officer’s family and colleagues in their thoughts
